Matthew Russell is a technology entrepreneur with career highlights that span active-duty military service, defense contracting, and leadership roles in venture-backed technology companies. In his role as the Kaminski Fellow for Decision Superiority at the Institute for Future Conflict, he partners with the Dean of Faculty, course directors, and instructors to operationalize data science across a broad cross-section of departments so that cadets will be equipped with the tools, best practices, and confidence to make data-driven decisions as future military leaders.
Russell was recognized as Nashville’s Chief Technology Officer of the Year in 2017 for his work in the development of AI-powered technology that builds knowledge graphs from human language and solves valuable business problems in a variety of sectors ranging from financial services to oncology. Russell is a distinguished graduate of both the U.S. Air Force Academy and the Air Force Institute of Technology where he earned degrees in Computer Science with a focus on machine learning and high-performance computing. While at the Academy, Russell served as a free fall parachuting instructor on the Wings of Blue parachuting team and was awarded the Dean W. Gonzalez award for graduating as the top cadet in the Computer Science major.
